When I think of places to buy a new computer, Walmart is not the first name that pops into my head. It’s not even the eighth name, honestly. But if you move past the lack of association with Walmart and gaming PCs in our collective consciousnesses, it’s actually a pretty great place to get good deals on gaming laptops and PCs. And if for whatever reason, the idea of getting a laptop from Walmart doesn’t sit right with you, Walmart offers surprisingly affordable extended warranties.
Right now, for example, Walmart has some great deals on MSI gaming computers and even has its own in-house brand, Overpowered. Yes, you read that correctly: Overpowered is the gaming PC brand exclusively sold through Walmart. We reviewed the Overpowered laptop and it turns out it’s great. But let’s get to the deals.
This laptop normally sells for $1499, and you can pick it up right now on sale and get a free copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. This 15-inch MSI has an Intel Core i7-8750, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, 256GB SSD and 1TB hard drive and 16GB RAM. It’s also the best deal in terms of cost-to-power ratio.
This is somewhat similar to the GL63 in that you get a free copy of Black Ops 4. Normally this 15-inch gaming laptop costs $1160. It has an Intel Core i7-8750, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 4GB, 256GB SSD and 1TB hard drive and 16GB RAM. Spot the difference? (It’s more than just the price!) Honestly, a 4GB-equipped 1050 should be more than enough for most gaming.
This usually-$999 laptop is on sale right now, and is equipped with an Intel Core Gen i5-8300, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB graphics card, 256GB NVMe SSD, 8GB RAM, and free Fortnite swag. The free Fortnite bundle includes:
I honestly don’t know which one I’d recommend between the GV62 and this one. It has an Intel Core i5-8300H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 4GB, 128GB SSD, and 8GB RAM. The GV62 is $50 less, comes with Fortnite stuff, but has 1GB less VRAM, but on 1060 instead of 1050 with 4GB. It’s your call.
This gaming laptop is the least powerful of the bunch, and coincidentally it’s the least expensive. Somehow I think the two might be related. It’s no slouch, and it normally costs $850. Inside is an Intel Core i5-8300H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2GB, a 1TB hard drive, and 8GB RAM. That 2GB VRAM with the GTX 1050 would give me pause at its list price, but for $650 I could look past its shortcomings. This will run most any game you want, just don’t expect Ultra settings on newer titles.
This brand is exclusive to Walmart and packs a whole bunch of features for not a lot of money, relatively speaking. The defining characteristic of this laptop, at least in my opinion, is its 144Hz display. But it gets better: it also comes with 32GB of RAM, has a mechanical LED keyboard and a 2TB hard drive. That’s in addition to an Intel i7-8750H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB and 256GB SSD.
